'Nechmaka At' Water Adventure Tour
Day 1San Salvador
You will finish your week at work with only one thing in mind… water adventures! Plan to depart the U.S. on an early morning flight so you can arrive at El Salvador’s Comalapa Airport in the afternoon.
Our TTC professional staff will greet you upon your arrival and transport you in our Mercedes Benz van to your hotel. This van will provide transportation throughout your trip. You will be spending your first night in El Salvador at the 5-star Radisson Hotel that is located in the Escalon district of San Salvador. You will enjoy the view of the San Salvador Volcano from your room or from the outdoor eating venue featured at this hotel.
The TTC staff will provide a welcome reception at the hotel. No worries; we will make sure you have time to relax and enjoy the many amenities your hotel offers – including the poolside waterfall -- as you anticipate the start to your water adventure-filled week! You will enjoy a nice dinner at the Radisson before retiring for the evening.
Day 2
Surfing at Sunzal Beach
Did you know that El Salvador is known as one of the ten best surfing destinations in the world? We will let our location speak for itself as you spend the day on Sunzal Beach. Day 2 of the ‘Nechmaka At’ Adventure is all about surfing!
Enjoy the delectable morning brunch served by the Radisson. After breakfast we will want to get an early start to the Sunzal Beach and the Tortuga Surfing School. Beginners will receive a brief orientation on the surf conditions and will be outfitted with a long board to begin your morning of surfing. With waters at 82F, there will be no need for a wet suit.
The classes begin on dry land, reviewing basic technique and form. Soon you will be in the water learning how to paddle out (always with your instructor). Before long you will ride your first wave and the world of surfing will be opening its door for you.
For experienced surfers you will rejoice in the world-class surfing conditions and be in awe of the total lack of crowds! (El Salvador’s coast is truly the best-kept secret in surfing!) You will also have your choice of long or short boards – whatever it takes to ensure a totally awesome surfing experience.
After a morning of surfing we will head to the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun). Upon arrival you will board the ‘Colocha’ --TTC’s 25ft. Panga boat -- and take a short ride to the Tasajara Island where we will have an afternoon barbecue on the beach. The rest of the day is yours; play on the beach, swim in the waves, take a banana tube ride around the bay, or just read a book.
Early evening we will check into the Comfort Inn where every room has a spectacular view of the ocean just below your balcony. We will then head off to dinner at the Bahia del Sol Marina and Casino where you will find your choice of fresh sea food, pasta, and a variety of other mouthwatering meals.
Day two of the ‘Nechmaka At’ Water Adventure will conclude back at your hotel. We suggest you take an evening stroll on the beach and enjoy a natural ‘star studded’ scene, but don’t stay out too late, as day three will present some more water challenges.
Day 3
Scuba Diving
Day three begins with breakfast on the patio of the Comfort Inn overlooking the grand Pacific Ocean! Although you will be tempted to linger, our staff will encourage you to board the van as we escort you to San Salvador to the home of El Salvador Divers -- a Five Star PADI Dive Center – a preferred partner of TTC (see http://www.ElSalvadorDivers.com).
If you are an uncertified diver, it is here you will begin your DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING course. “DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING” is a one-day SCUBA program offered by the Tamarindo Touring Company in partnership with El Salvador Divers.
You will begin your morning course with a PADI instructional video and end it in a pool where you will take your first magical breath under water. Once you reach a level of comfort with your equipment and the underwater experience, we will travel to Ilopango Lake, which is located in an active volcanic crater. Lunch will be served at the Casa Club on the lake. Following lunch, you will dive into a crater with an El Salvador Divers PADI certified instructor and a certified Tamarindo Touring Company staff diver. Completing the DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING course qualifies you to dive up to 40 feet under water -- which will of course depend upon each diver’s capacity and level of comfort.
After this action-packed day of SCUBA diving, we will travel back to San Salvador for a night at the Marriott at the Plaza Gran Via. Here you will find a multitude of dining options -- from sushi to exquisitely prepared certified Angus beef. There are several entertainment options at the Plaza Gran Via – or you can choose one of the lovely wine bars and enjoy a more leisurely evening before retiring to your hotel that is only steps away. (Dinner for this evening is not included in the price of this tour.)
(Please note; for certified divers, there are a couple of options from which to choose for your dive. If you visit El Salvador between the months of December and February, you may choose to take an ocean dive at Los Cobanos reef, which offers shipwreck dives as well abundant sea life amidst the only stretch of coral reef in El Salvador. Another option is the active volcanic crater of Lake Ilopango, offering spectacular geology and great visibility.
Day 4
River Rafting
Day four will begin with an early breakfast and a trip to the western part of El Salvador -- to the Lempa River in the Usulutan Province. It is here we will begin our morning of exhilarating river rafting down a challenging section of the Lempa -- the largest river in the country.
The trained professional staff of Lempa Tours will introduce us to the techniques required to master river rafting as we experience exciting class 1-3 rapids. As our confidence builds, we will graduate to the more challenging portions of the river where our heart accelerates as we encounter the class 4-5 rapids.
After our tour on the Lempa, we will then travel to the lovely Port Barillas Club located on the Costa del Sol. It is here we will stay in beautiful cabins tucked away under large Eucalyptus trees. At the club you can enjoy the views from the dock of El Salvador’s shrimp fishing fleet, relax by the pool or take a nap in one of the inviting hammocks strewn throughout the property. Our staff will be preparing your dinner right on the grounds of the Port Barillas Club -- as always, you will have your choice of meat, fresh fish, poultry, and grilled vegetables.
Day 5
Kayaking
The mornings at the very private and exclusive Port Barillas Club are extraordinary. We encourage you to awaken early and embrace the splendor that surrounds you. After breakfast we will leave from the Barillas marina in our HOBIE kayaks to explore the lovely Jiquilisco Bay. The estuaries offer spectacular views and deserted stretches of beach just waiting to be explored!
After a spectacular day on Jiquilisco Bay, we will head back to Port Barillas Club where we will enjoy another quiet evening with dinner, wine, and conversation. You will once again have the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful sunset on the marina before settling in for the night.
Day 6
Deep-Sea Fishing
Captain Lucio and his crew of the FORTUNA II will be waiting for us very early in the morning at the dock of the Port Barillas Club. Therefore, we will grab a quick breakfast as we anticipate our exciting day of deep-sea fishing on the great Pacific Ocean. You will find the FORTUNA II an Ocean 40 Yacht equipped with every convenience; AC in the main cabin, cool drinks of your choice, and comfortable seating with a view from it’s main bridge.
We will begin our day of fishing from Jiquilisco Bay and journey approximately 45 miles into the Pacific Ocean. Captain Lucio is a seasoned veteran and knows the waters of the Salvadoran coast very well. You will appreciate his calm and knowledge of the sea as he guides us to Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Rooster and Tuna. (It is the policy of the Tamarindo Touring Company to release all Marlin and Sailfish – so bring your camera, as you won’t want to miss this photo opportunity).
If you choose not to fish we will then take you on an ocean tour that often times provide close encounters with sea turtles, dolphins, and other fascinating sea life. Swimming with the dolphins is an option offered by the TTC staff. (*Certified Divers could also opt for an ocean dive -- season permitting)
After eight hours on the ocean, the FORTUNA II will deliver you back to the Jaltapeque Bay and the Bahia del Sol marina. TTC staff will transport you to the Comfort Inn where you will find your luggage waiting for you in your rooms.
Dinner will hopefully include the fresh fish caught that day on the FORTUNA II and prepared by our friends Marisol and her husband Julio at their great local restaurant MAR Y SOL -- conveniently located on the Jaltapeque Bay. If the ocean doesn’t cooperate, or you desire something other than fish, the MAR Y SOL offers other options, including famous Salvadoran pupusas -- the national Salvadoran dish.
After dinner, the TTC staff would like to conclude our ‘Nechmaka At’ Water Adventure Tour at the Bahia del Sol with a nightcap and the option to enjoy a fabulous Cuban cigar as we reminisce about our shared experiences during this exceptional week where TTC ‘gives you water’! If you are not ready to retire, the Bahia del Sol offers a Salvadoran style casino that you are welcome to explore.
DAY 7
Departure
Breakfast will be served poolside at the Comfort Inn. Depending on your departure time, you might have a few moments to take one last stroll along the beach as you catch a final glimpse of the Salvadoran Pacific coastline! The Comalapa International Airport is only 30 minutes away.
